Obituary for Maria Contrino (Farrugia)

Of Medford formerly of Newton, passed away peacefully Saturday evening March 3rd, 2018 in the Courtyard Nursing Care Center in Medford in her 104th year.

Born on December 19, 1913 in Marion, Illinois; daughter of the late Luigi and Francesca Farrugia, Maria was raised in Italy, and returned to the United States as a young woman residing in Newton for most of her life before moving to Framingham and then Medford in 1999.

Maria had been employed as a Seamstress at the Moody Dress Company in Waltham for many years. She had a love for sewing.

One of her great passions was cooking and making her famous cannoli's. Her greatest enjoyment came from spending time with family especially her grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband the late Serafino Contrino and loving children Louis "Louie" Contrino and Francesca "Gina" Pucci and her husband the late Angelo Pucci.

Maria is survived by her loving & devoted son Gaspare Contrino of Medford and her dear daughter-in-law Marcia Contrino of Marshfield. In addition she is survived by 8 cherished grandchildren, 9 adoring great grandchildren, a great great grandchild and many nieces & nephews.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services from the Brasco & Sons Memorial Chapels, 773 Moody St., WALTHAM on Thursday morning March 15th at 9:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Maria’s Life at Sacred Heart Church, 311 River St., Waltham at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Newton Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held in the Funeral Home on Wednesday evening March 14th from 5 – 7 p.m. Parking attendants on duty.
