Condolence: I’m sorry this note is so late. I just learned of John’s passing today. I don’t know where to start. Who else in your life do you know who is universally loved and respected? John was one of those people. I’ve never heard anyone speak about him in less than glowing terms. Who else sent notes to uncountable numbers of friends and family on their birthdays and anniversaries? Nobody. That’s the uncommon thoughtfulness John showed every day. My last time together with John was a fine sunny day when we went for a long drive in my 1967 Corvette convertible. We had a fantastic day together and I’m so glad we had the chance to do it. God bless you John. We miss you buddy.

Condolence: Like our fellow co-worker Valerine Paul (who commented here earlier), I too was privileged to work with John at IBM since 1997 when I first met him at our development lab in Poughkeepsie NY. Some folks in careers you work with for years, but once you retire, you lose track. I retired in 2013, but never would want to lose track of John, visiting with him on my trips back to hometown of Boston as well as frequent calls and cards. John NEVER forgot my or my wife's birthday or anniversary...he was amazingly organized and compassionate in that, and many other ways. I'll miss him terribly.

Condolence: I was so very priviledged to work with John at IBM for 25 years and be friends together for almost 30. He will always be such a special person to me, and to so may other IBM colleagues and friends. His positive outlook, strong work ethic, incredible knowledge of the inner workings of IBM was invaluable to all of his peers and his management team as well. His mentoring of new IBM folks brought them up to speed quickly, but always with a keen sense of humor and peppered with good stories from his vast experience. IBM will miss him greatly, but more importantly, I will miss his kindness, caring, our long talks about our kids and family, and his dear friendship always. John is one of the great ones, and we are all so lucky to have been his friend and Co-worker. He is the very best!

Condolence: Over the past 18 years, I had the opportunity to interact with John at IBM periodically, both in Waltham and in Cambridge. He was always the utmost professional and willing to help if he could. His commitment to his work was unmatched and his commitment to the people he worked with was even more impressive. Over the years he was thoughtful to send a quick email to me on my work anniversary, and not only wish me a happy birthday but to acknowledge the birthdays of my children. It is his positive outlook, wit and kindness that I will remember. My thoughts and prayers are with John's family and friends.
