Obituary for Donald Edward Richard

Donald Edward Richard, 79 passed away after a lengthy illness, on December 31, 2017, at the Maristhill Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Waltham, MA.

Beloved son of the late Edward and Josephine Girouard Richard.

He is survived by his loving brothers Raymond H. Richard and his wife Maureen of Waltham, Eugene W. Richard and his wife Marcia of Crofton, MD, his niece Renee J. Austin and her husband Steve of Severna Park, MD, nephew Marc E. Richard of Golden CO, and two great-nephews Ryan and Jake Austin.

Donald was born in Waltham on September 27, 1938. He attended St. Charles and Waltham High School and was active in the Waltham Boys Club. While in school, Donald loved wrestling and became an amateur wrestler with the Amateur Association Union for Wrestlers (AAUW) and had participated in the Olympic trials at Harvard University for the AAUW.

He enlisted in the Navy at the age of seventeen and served two years in the reserves and two years in active duty. He was assigned to the USS Boston, the first guided missile cruiser which his father Edward worked on as a welder in Quincy, MA. The ship was the first of its class to voyage around the world.

Later, Donald worked in Boston, managing several restaurants. He retired in 2013 and enjoyed spending time at Old Orchard Beach.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Graveside Funeral Service with United States Navy Military Honors in celebration of Donald's Life at Mount Feake Cemetery, 203 Prospect Street, WALTHAM on Monday afternoon January 8th at 12:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his memory can be made to Maristhill Rehabilitation Center in Waltham, Mass, 66 Newton Street, Waltham, MA 02453.

The Brasco & Sons Memorial Chapels of WALTHAM assisted the family with arrangements.
