Obituary for John Mele

Of Waltham, passed away peacefully early Wednesday morning March 7th, 2018 surrounded by his family in his home after courageous battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 83.

Born on October 20, 1934 in Sancta Maria, Italy; son of the late Angelo Mele and Rose (DiPiero) Mele, John immigrated to the United States as a young man and has been a resident of Waltham for the past 62 years. He spent many winters at his home in Green Acres, Florida.
John was employed with the Hewlett Packard Corporation in Waltham for many years before going into Real Estate Development. He took great pride in his work, and was hardworking and dedicated to his job.

He had a passion for playing golf and enjoyed going skiing, working in his garden and tending to his fig trees. John was a member of the Blueberry Golf Club on Cape Cod and the Oakahealy Golf Club in Florida.
His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Edwidge "Eddie" (Landry) Mele, his loving children Michael Angelo Mele of Florida, Rose Hattabaugh of Weston, Annette Alfria of Connecticut, Julie Alagna of Natick, Tina Bastarache of Natick and Lisa Casey of Westford, and his dear siblings Fausto Mele of Waltham & Florida, Alamanda Rossilo of Waltham and Maria Rossilo of Australia. In addition he is survived by 16 cherished grandchildren and many nieces & nephews.

John was predeceased by his dear brothers the late Antonio, Philip & Modesto.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service in celebration of John’s Life in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Saturday afternoon March 10th at 3:30 p.m. Visiting Hours will be held in the Mary Catherine Chapel of Brasco & Sons on Saturday afternoon March 10th prior to the Funeral Service from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. Parking attendants on duty.
