Obituary for Marie M. Case (Nowakowski)

Of Waltham, passed away peacefully Friday morning September 22nd, 2017 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. She was 89.

Born on June 10, 1928 in Cleveland, Ohio; Marie was raised in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and has been a Waltham resident since 1962.

A graduate of Duquesne University of the Holy Spirit with a Bachelor of Arts Degree, Marie continued her education receiving her Masters Degree.

Marie then began a long career in teaching. She was first employed with the Boston Public School Department as a Teacher for 2 years and went on to teach in the Waltham Public School system for over 28 years. Marie taught at various schools throughout her career. She had a passion for educating and helping children learn. She was a member of the Massachusetts Teacher's Association for many years.

After her retirement she continued to educate children; volunteering at Presentation School in Brighton, Our Lady's Academy in Waltham and with the Saint Mary's Church in Waltham after school program.

She had a strong faith in her God and for years had been an active & devoted member of Saint Charles Borromeo Parish Community in Waltham. In her spare time she was an avid bowler, she enjoyed playing chess and listening to classical music especially Italian opera.

Marie is survived by her devoted & loving son Edward J. Case and his wife Yvonne of Nashua, NH and Michael Case and his wife April of Watertown, MA, her cherished grandchildren Christine, Caroline, Nicole, Stephanie, Mark, David, Ryan, Gregory and Michael.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services in celebration of Marie's Life from the Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody St., WALTHAM on Wednesday morning Sept. 27th at 9:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Mary's Church, Waltham at 10:00 a.m. Visiting Hours will be held on Tuesday Sept. 26th from 3 - 7 p.m. Marie's burial will tale place on Thursday Sept. 28th in St. Mary's Cemetery in Troy, NY at 1:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in Marie's memory to Saint Mary's Church for the after school program, 145 School Street, Waltham, MA 02453.
