Obituary for Arthur L. Gisbourne

Mr. Arthur L. Gisbourne of Waltham died peacefully surrounded by his family on November 26, 2017 at Meadow Green Nursing Facility following a lengthy illness.

Arthur was born in Cambridge on November 30, 1928, the son of late Thomas and Norah (Burns) Gisbourne. He attended St. Peters School and Rindge High School in Cambridge.

He played football, hockey and baseball and excelled in all three sports. He received a full football scholarship to Northeastern University but due to a high school football injury was unable to attend Northeastern.

He went to work at Houghton Mifflin Company and that is where he met his future wife, Helen Kapchus. They were married on September 27, 1952 in St Paul’s Church in Harvard Square, Cambridge.

He retired from Star Market where he worked as Deli Manager and Receiving Manager at a number of the Boston area stores.
He was an usher at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted for a number of years and assisted with the CCD Program.

He was the devoted husband of sixty-five years to Helen A. (Kapchus) Gisbourne; loving father of Paul Gisbourne of Waltham, Anne Giambarresi and her husband, John, of Wakefield, Joan Cronin and her husband, Waltham Police Sergeant, John Cronin, of Burlington, Tricia Ricci and her husband, Ronald, of Waltham, Mary Dailey and her husband, George, of Billerica and Susan Pettis and her husband, Brian, of Stow; and a brother of Nora McIntee of Arlington. He was also the proud grandfather of Leah Giambarresi of Everett, Jaclyn McNulty and her husband Sean of Dorchester, John Cronin, III and his wife Kristin of Billerica, Daniel Cronin and his wife Alison of Burlington, Kathleen Cronin of Burlington Jenna Cronin of Burlington, Alyssa Ricci of Waltham, Jill Ricci of S. Boston, George Dailey, IV of Billerica, Jason Dailey of Billerica, and Brett Pettis of Stow, great grandfather of Kelsey, Abigail, and Maeve, and leaves many nieces and nephews.

He was the brother-in-law of the late Walter McIntee.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend funeral service from the Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773, Moody St., Waltham Thursday, November 30, 2017at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Arthur's life at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 920 Trapelo Rd., Waltham, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Newton Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday from 4 – 8 p.m. Parking attendants on duty.
