Obituary for John J. Girdvainis

John J.  Girdvainis
Of Belmont, passed away peacefully Tuesday May 30th, 2017 with loving family by his side at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge at the age of 88.

Born on May 12, 1929 in Cambridge, son of the late Matthew and Mary (Bendarivicius) Girdvainis, John was raised in Cambridge and has been a Belmont resident since 1964.

As a young man John had been employed as a Wool Puller for the Swift & Company and after the business moved out of state he worked as an Electrical Technician with EBSCO Industries Inc.

In the early 1970's John started working as a Meat Cutter with Star Market and later retired from Shaw's Supermarket in Belmont.

John devoted much of his spare time and energy to his Masonic Lodge and the Shriners Organization. He served in numerous capacities within the Masons and the Shriners. He donated and volunteered for all their charitable endeavors. He had a generous nature and through his works gave back in every way he could to his Masonic Lodge.

He had a strong faith in his God and was a daily communicant of Saint Luke's Parish Community in Belmont.

John was an artistic person and had a passion for drawing; he also enjoyed working with his hands building furniture, playing cards especially cribbage and going fishing.

Beloved husband of the late Joan F. (Branagan) Girdvainis.

John is survived by his devoted & loving daughters Joann Hill and her husband Lawrence of Belmont, Debra Girdvainis of Orlando, Florida, and Cheryl Thompson of Randolph and her former husband Edward Thompson, his cherished grandchildren Jennifer Hill of Belmont, Daniel Hill and his wife Dara of New Hampshire, KellyMarie Thompson and Michael Thompson both of Randolph, and his dear sister Frances Gostanian of Florida. In addition he survived by many nieces & nephews.

Brother of the late Stanley, Matthew and Francis Girdvainis.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service in celebration of John's Life in the Brasco & Sons Memorial Chapel, 325 Trapelo Road, BELMONT, on Friday morning June 2nd at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow in Belmont Cemetery. Visiting Hours will be held in the Funeral Home on Thursday June 1st from 3 - 7 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 51 Blossom Street, Boston, MA 02114 or the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN. 38105.
