Obituary for Juan Ascencio

Juan Ascencio

Of Waltham, passed away, Tuesday, April 5, 2017 at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital after a brief illness. He was 92.

Born and raised in Trujillo, Peru to the late German Ascencio and Palmira Diaz, he moved to Venezuela when he was in his twenties and came to the United States seven years ago to be with his children, spending time in Rhode Island and Waltham.

When Juan was young he started his professional wrestling career in Peru. Wrestling took Juan all over and landed him in Venezuela, where he started his family. After Juan's wrestling career was over became a Physical Fitness Trainer for the National Guard of Venezuela, where he worked for over 40 years.

In Juan's spare time, he enjoyed horse racing, playing dominos, collecting artifacts from his native Peru, and most of all travelling to be with his family.

He is survived by his loving children Jose Gregorio Murillo of North Smithfield, RI, Juan Carlos Ascencio and his wife Julie (Cotton) of Waltham, Maricel Dean and her husband Patrick of Waltham, Eduardo Stern of Spain, and Bethzabe Aular of Venezuela, his former wife Lourdes Ascencio of Venezuela, his brothers Nelson Montilla and Miguel Montalbo, both of Peru and his cherished grandchildren Jeffrey, Amelie, Mariana, Olivia, Charlotte, Sofia, Simon, Oliver, Eleanor, Simon, Heidi, Remyanth, Grisbeth, and Reybeth. He is also survived by great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A private service in celebration of Juan's life was held for the immediate family.
