Of Quincy, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday February 22nd, 2017 in Quincy Medical Center at the age of 86.
Born on January 19, 1931 in China; beloved son of Sen Chor Lung and Tow Mgut Shee, Melvin was raised in China and immigrated to the United States in the 1950’s.
When he arrived as a young man to the United States he began working with his parents at their restaurant in the Chinatown section of Boston. That experience would lead him into a very successful career as a Restaurateur.
In the 1960’s, Melvin owned and operated the South Pacific Chinese Food Restaurant in Newton & Malden, then expanded his business opening Bali Hai in Lynnfield from the 1970’s to the early 80’s; during the 1980’s he opened Mac Wong's Chinese Restaurant in North Reading, and then Fantasy Island Restaurant in Salem & Danvers to present.
He had a passion for singing Karaoke and loved to follow all Boston sports teams. Most of all he treasured the time spent with his family & friends. There was never a birthday or special occasion he forgot; always sending red envelopes to his grandchildren.
Melvin was predeceased by his beloved wife Linda (NG) Lung on June 29, 2001.
He is survived by his devoted & loving children Deborah Lam of Marblehead, MA, Richard Lung and his wife Anna of Park Ridge, IL, and Edward Lung and his wife Becket of Medfield, MA, cherished grandfather of Jonathan, Brandon, Brittany, Melissa, Gregory, Josiah, Elisha, Gideon, and Naomi, and adoring great grandfather of Talia, Nina and Alyse. In addition he is survived by many nieces & nephews.
Brother of the late Roland and Barney Lung.
Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend Buddhist Funeral Services in celebration of Melvin’s Life in the WING FOOK Funeral Home, 13 Gerard Street, BOSTON on Saturday morning March 4th at 10:00 a.m. Procession will leave the Funeral Home for the burial in Newton Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Visiting Hours will be held in the WING FOOK Funeral Home on Friday evening March 3rd from 7 – 9:30 p.m.
