Obituary for Gregory "Greg" Bithell

Gregory "Greg" Bithell
Gregory Glynn “Greg” Bithell, 52

Greg Bithell left this earth on February 18, 2017, after filling our lives with love and laughter.

Greg was born on May 26, 1964 to Marita Glynn (Bithell) Donahue and the late Dr. Thomas Carter Bithell. While growing up, he was constantly taking things apart to see how they worked, and then attempting to put them back together without facing that universal predicament of having pieces or parts leftover.

He graduated from the University of Vermont with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering, which led him in to a successful sales career. Always more than just his job or his title, Greg’s interests were as wide and as deep as the ocean that never stopped calling to him.

Greg’s love of music started at an early age, playing trumpet for years in school, then the guitar, and then drums in the band “The Willy Loman’s”. His music collection covered every genre – from Aerosmith to Bob Marley to James Taylor and The Beatles.

Boating and skiing were the two passions that he “blamed” on his beloved “Uncle Jimmy”, James Donahue. Helping him to “drive” the boat and taking him alone up the mountain on a tow line, Uncle Jimmy set these cornerstones of Greg’s life.

Greg was at his happiest while on his boat. Spending the day on the hook with lots of sun and swimming, good food and good friends, followed by watching the sunset and relaxing under the stars, was his idea of heaven on earth.

An avid fan of the New England Patriots, Greg even named his two kitties Tom Brady and Lawyer Milloy.

More than anything, Greg loved to laugh and to make others laugh. His lightning-quick sardonic wit was matched only by his ability to turn the joke back onto himself.

On October 31, 2008, Greg married Renie (Hartl) Marsh at Barker Tavern in Scituate, MA – next to the water, of course – and on Halloween no less, an idea which delighted him to the end. With Renie, Greg found a partner who could not only “get the joke,” but was also his XO.

Greg is preceded by his Dad, Daniel J. Donahue, and Uncle James Donahue.

Greg is survived by his wife and XO, Renie (Marsh) Bithell; his mother Marita Glynn Donahue of Mashpee; his sister Lisa Bithell Kirk and brother-in-law Allan Kirk of Bozeman, MT; his nieces Meghan Kirk of Hawaii and Molly Kirk of California; his Aunt June (“AJ”) Donahue of Wilton, NH; step-brother and sister-in-law John and Jane Donahue of Wareham; and his nieces Mary and Elizabeth Donahue. In addition, he leaves a host of friends whom he loved.

Family and friends are invited to gather for Greg’s Bon Voyage on Sunday, March 12th, starting at 11:30 a.m. in the “Mary Catherine Chapel” of the Brasco & Sons Memorial, 773 Moody Street, Waltham. Expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to your local animal rescue group or shelter, or to “Skipness” at Kindness Animal Hospital (20 Linden St., Waltham, MA 02452), who have always been so caring and loving to all their clients.

We will carry Greg’s love with us, and the laughter will ring on in our hearts – always.
