Of Auburndale, passed away, Sunday evening, January 22, 2017 at the Newton-Wellesley Hospital. She was 89.
Born and raised in Watertown to the late Joseph T. and Dorothy V. (Cheetham) McElroy, she has been a resident of Newton for the past 60 years.
Ethel was a graduate of Watertown High School and received her Nursing Degree from Newton Junior College. She worked as a Registered Nurse and a Nursing supervisor for many years at the Waltham Hospital, the Brookline Hospital and several other hospitals.
She enjoyed taking trips to Twin River in Rhode Island, playing KENO, and having lunch dates at the Chateau with her children. She will be remembered as a dedicated mother, wife, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
She was the beloved wife of the late Phillip Fay Jones, devoted mother of the late Phillip Jones, and sister of the late Bob, Billy, and Warren McElroy.
She is survived by her loving children Dorothy "Dolly" Casey and her husband Len of Bourne, Deborah "Debby" Miller and her husband Jim of Plainville, Beverly Arsenault and her husband Joe of Stoughton, and Robert Jones and his wife Linda (Mead) of Auburndale, and mother-in-law of Sharon (Moody) Jones of Waltham. She is also survived by her 20 cherished grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A Private Funeral Service has been held for the immediate family.
