Sr. Mary Grace was born in Chicago, Il, on June 18, 1928. Sister had two siblings, Margaret (Pearson) who died and her brother, John, who lives in Indiana. Her parents were John Michael Sherly born in Chicago on Jan. 24, 1887 and Emelia Schweget born in Chicago on Oct. 21, 1895.
Sr. Mary Grace entered the Marist Missionary Sisters in Lowell, MA. On Sept. 8, 1960, and made her 1st profession of Vows in Waltham, MA. on March 9, 1963. After a few months of community service, She was given her mission assignment to San Francisco on March 24, 1963 where she stayed until 1966.
Sr. Mary Grace then was assigned to Peru where she practiced her Social Work skills in March 2967 and in Colombia until 2005. In between, Sister returned to the State4s several times for short courses and renewals. In 2008, Sr. Mary Grace returned to the USA for health reasons and remained here as her health was deteriorating both physically and mentally.
Sister was assigned to Marillac Assisted Living facility in Wellesley, MA. in Aug. 2008. Sister had a fall and broke her hip and went to MaristHill Nursing and Rehab in Jan 2011 and remained there until she died early morning on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2016.
Sr. Mary Grace leaves her brother, John and his wife and several nieces and nephews as well as so many friends in Latin America and her Marist Sisters here in Waltham.
Sister’s Wake will be held at the 62 Newton Street Convent on Jan 3, 2017 at 9:00am followed by a Mass of Resurrection at the same above address at 10:30 am.
