Charles F. "Chas"  O'Neil Jr.
Of Waltham, passed away peacefully Thursday morning June 18th, 2015 surrounded by his loving family in his home after a long illness at the age of 69.

Born on October 9, 1945 in Waltham; son of the late Charles F. O’Neil Sr. and Astrid (Anderson) O’Neil, Chas was a lifelong resident of the Cedarwood section of Waltham.

A graduate of Waltham High School with the Class of 1963, Chas furthered his education, graduating from MassBay Community College in 1970. He was employed as a Maintenance Technician at Brandeis University in Waltham for over 25 years. For many years he also was employed as a Truck Driver for J. Melone & Sons Inc. of Stow.

Chas proudly served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He served aboard USS Taussig under Commander Samuel L. Gravely Jr, the first black man to command a U.S. combat ship and later, the first black man to make the rank of Admiral of the United States Navy.

Family was the most important aspect of his life. He loved being with his family especially his grandchildren. Chas was a passionate hockey fan. He enjoyed playing hockey with his two boys and he loved watching the Boston Bruins. He also enjoyed going skiing with his family and building model train railroads with his boys when they were younger.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years Judith “Judy” (Chaisson) O’Neil, his loving sons Michael Charles O’Neil and his wife Regina (Tarallo) O’Neil of Middleton and James O’Neil of Jacksonville Beach, FL, his cherished granddaughters Myla and Charlotte O’Neil, his dear brother Carl Timothy “Tim” O’Neil and his wife Susan of Deale, Maryland, and his adored nieces Jessica, Caitlin & Mollie.

Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services from the Brasco & Sons Memorial Funeral Home, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Wednesday morning June 24th at 9:00 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Charles’s Life at Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, WALTHAM at 10:00 a.m. Interment with United States Navy Military Honors will follow at Mount Feake Cemetery in Waltham. Visiting Hours will be held in the Funeral Home on Tuesday June 23rd from 3 – 7 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
