Of Waltham, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon March 30th, 2015 in his home with his loving family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 75.
Born on February 17, 1940 in Camden, New Jersey; son of the late Thomas J. Williams and Dorothy (Wainwright) Williams, Bob was raised in Millville, New Jersey and moved to Waltham over 50 years ago.
Bob graduated from Millville High School with the Class of 1958, and after graduation began a career in the Military Service.
He proudly served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the M-16 Sharpshooter Badge. He retired after 25 years of Honorable and Dedicated service to his Country.
He lived a life of service to his country, his community and his fellow man. Whether that was as a volunteer at the Soup Kitchen on Cherry Street in Waltham, as a volunteer assisting at the Veterans Memorial Skating Rink on Totten Pond Road in Waltham, or simply through the devotion to his faith as an active parishioner, Eucharistic Minister and member of the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church in Waltham. He loved giving of himself to help others.
While his boys were young, Bob coached North Waltham Little League at Lazazzero Playground on Lake Street in Waltham. He was passionate about sports and a diehard New England sports fanatic following the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriot's.
In his spare time he loved traveling and spending time with his family & friends.
Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years Janet (Bower) Williams, his loving & devoted sons Waltham Police Officer Robert J. Williams Jr. of Waltham and David M. Williams and his partner Bob McGee of Palm Springs, California, his cherished grandsons Jake Thomas Williams and Timothy Connor Williams, his dear daughter-in-law Julie Williams, and his siblings Ruth Schindel Waterhouse of Medfield, Herbert "Herb" Williams of Millville, New Jersey, and Marion Whiteman of New Jersey. In addition he is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends who will miss him dearly.
Son-in-law of the late Thomas H. Bower and Irene F. Bower and brother of the late Shirley Wilson, David E. Williams, Thomas Williams and Margaret Dunbar.
Relatives & Friends are respectfully invited to attend Funeral Services from the Brasco & Sons Memorial Chapel, 773 Moody Street, WALTHAM on Tuesday morning April 7th at 8:30 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial in celebration of Robert's Life at Our Lady Comforter of the Afflicted Church, 880 Trapelo Road, Waltham at 10:00 a.m. Interment with United States Army Military Honors will follow at Saint Patrick's Cemetery in Natick. Visiting Hours will be held in the Funeral Home on Monday April 6th from 4 - 8 p.m. Parking attendants will be on duty.
